
The heart of the program is an ongoing seminar of 15 students that is led by the same faculty member. Each semester, the seminars work takes on a topical focus. Under the umbrella of the seminar, each student organizes and then carries out her individualized program of preparation. The five central activities of the seminar include: Round Robin, Notes From the Field, Teaching Technology, Course Readings, and Project Work. All students who participate in the seminar are expected to complete the following commitments:
Inquiry Circles. each student will work with 2-3 CEC students, sharing his or her ideas, beliefs, and practices with respect to integrating technology in the classroom, and offering support and guidance to the other members in the circle. This will be done online and face-to-face.
Semester Plan - each student will be responsible for developing their own semester plan that documents the goals they will accomplish over the semester.
Readings - each student will be expected to read specific chapters/articles and participate in class discussions.
Teaching Technology - each student will work with their working circle group to develop two "learning experiences" (lessons) to support other cohort members in learning a new technology skill. Each student will also be expected to provide feedback to two lessons.
Autobiographical Statement - each student will complete an autobiographical statement of why they want to be a teacher. This 1-2 page statement should include specific examples of events that contributed to your interest in teaching, not simply abstract convictions. They may also choose to share this statement with the group and their mentor teacher.
Completed Expectation - each student will complete in full two expectations per semester in which they have been a member of the CEC.
Mentor Report - each student will complete reports highlighting and reflecting on their experiences visiting mentors.
Atlantis - each student or group can participate in the Quest Atlantis Project at the local Boys and Girls Club.
Needs Analysis/Action Plan - each group can participate in a needs analysis/action plan in which they evaluate the technology at a K-12 schools and make suggestions for improvement.
Job Portfolio - As a culminating activity in
CEC, each member will be expected to complete in addition to his or her Portfolio
of Expectations, a Job Portfolio for future employers.
