Appendix C: Evidence of Quality Teaching

4th and 5th grade student comments, 1995 - present

This work involved the teaching of 4th and 5th grade classes as well as working with teachers to develop innovative instructional projects. Specifically, I taught numerous courses and designed curriculum in collaboration with teachers. The following reviews are from the students in the classes that I taught.

  • Mike is the best student teacher that I have ever. I am going to miss him next year.
  • Thank you so much for teaching our class. I learned a lot about space, the Moon, and the solar system. I always tell my parents what we are doing in EME (Early Morning Enrichment) because I like the stuff we do so much. I don't think I could have learned anything without your help. Thanks!
  • You explained the stuff is such an easy way for me to understand. I think it is because you explain it kid terms.
  • Thank you so much for teaching us. The things you taught us was awesome. For example, I liked learning about the phases of the Moon and the Earth.
  • The way you taught us made learning interesting and fun. If I had the change I would come to your class every year! It was AWESOME.
  • Thank you for helping me to learn about space. You really helped me to get interested into space. Now I'm reading about it all of the time.
  • I learned a lot more about space than I used to know from Mike. He also made me want
  • Mike has unique way of teaching that just captures his student into a trance that is unbreakable
  • I've never met a teacher like Mike. He is very nice and doesn't mind us talking. He teaches in a special way, and we like him very much.
  • I've learned so much. One main thing I've learned is to learn to enjoy learning.
  • Mike was one of the coolest teachers! He didn't mind us asking questions because he was such a great teacher
  • Thank you for being our teacher. I don't think I would have enjoyed this year so much if you were not here to help us. I wish the year wasn't already over as I would like learn more about science.
  • I love working with the computers. When something went wrong you didn't panic and helped us to figure it out for ourselves. I loved being able to show my model to my parents at home.
  • Thank you for taking your time to teach us all about the universe and everything in it. I learned a lot about how each planet is affected by each little thing. Maybe we can class, I'd sure like to. I've had a great time learning new things. It's hard but, fun. I hope you get to be a professor soon you have a chance to go into space as a teacher. I really enjoyed how you made the class fun and hands on or the case of the thermometer hands-off!
  • I appreciate you teaching us about everything. I hope you continue to teach classes so more students can be opened up to new ways of thinking. My brother will be in your class next year, so make sure he learns something!
  • I loved the class. I used to think that science wasn't very exciting but when you started getting us to do experiments and other stuff that was science I realized I really did like science. I really liked that you didn't just sit and talk to us like all of our other teachers. I will miss this class, but I think I will enjoy doing science next year!
