The Computer Endorsement Cohort (CEC)
is designed to prepare teachers at all grade levels to use the knowledge
and skills of pedagogy and technology to enhance teaching and learning.
It is grounded on the premise that in order to change the way teachers
teach, they must experience innovative ways to learn as part of
their professional preparation. |
| Context |
In the spring of 2000, I began work on
examining the Computer Endorsement Cohort program. CEC is a unique
teacher education program where students participate in a community
of pre-service teachers and do extensive fieldwork rather than attending
typical pre-service teacher courses. I attended each class in the
seminar, attended extra-curricular events, and conducted interviews
with participants |
| Conditions |
I have been working on this project since its inception in the
spring of 2000. The program is still in its infancy and is still
working toward a working model of what it means to develop a community
of teachers working toward their teacher certification as well
as a computer endorsement.
|
| Scope |
This research project is currently on-going
and is expected to continue for the next few years. According to
the research base on the development of communities, it is clear
that to understand how a community forms requires significant amounts
of time and patience. |
| Role |
My role in this project has been to observe
and participate in the CEC seminar, and then study themes in more
depth in subsequent semesters. I attended every CEC meeting (formal
and informal) over the past year and half as well as interviewed
program participants. I have also begun to develop relationships
with local school systems to work with teachers who might serve
as mentors or work with CEC students to develop their technical
and pedagogical skills. |
