-- virtual reality future camp

In this research project, I, Ken Hay, and our research team have been exploring learning/instruction within a collaborative, student-centered, open-ended, learning environment. Using a social constructivist framework as our theoretical lens, we are tracking the emergence of shared understandings as students use state-of-the-art virtual reality equipment to design virtual worlds. We video taped student-student, student-teacher, student-technology, and student-resource interactions. All of the 33 videos are being reviewed, coded, and digitized by our research team (consisting of IST students) so that they can be placed on a computer server. Digitizing the video clips will allow us to have simultaneous access to multiple related clips, facilitating the generation of networks consisting of various nodes (actors) and links (connections among the nodes), which represent the development of student understandings.
