W310 Attendance and Class Participation Policy
Attendance
Just like a professional, you are expected to faithfully come to work and
arrive on time. Punctuality and attendance at class meetings are expected.
Since each class meeting is the equivalent of one week's worth of work,
it would not be advantageous for you to miss class. We do a lot of
group work, therefore, your group depends on your presence. I will
check attendance every class session.
If you will be absent, communicate with me (phone and/or email) prior
to class if you are ill or have an emergency. I will deal with absences
on an individual basis and may ask you to document your absence with a
note from the Health Center. If you fail to communicate your absence
prior to class it will result in an unexcused absence. Points will
be deducted from your final grade for each instance of unexcused absence.
Do not have your roommate or classmate deliver your absence message
for you. Failure to communicate your absence to me prior to class
will result in an unexcused absence.
Participation
In general you will be expected to participate in class discussions both
as an active discussant and as a respective listener. More specifically,
you will be expected to keep up with the readings and contribute to reading
discussion groups. Over the course of this semester you will sign
up for 1 discussion groups. Each group will be responsible for (1)
reading the article independently, (2) meeting as a small group to discuss
the selected article, and (3) leading a class discussion on the assigned
reading.
