It has been said that there are two kinds of teachers:
those with 10 years of experience and those with one year of experience
repeated 10 times. An essential part of maintaining one’s life-long
learning is to engage in professional development activities. It
is through these activities that we continually learn anew along with our
students. One excellent means of professional development is to attend
conferences. At these conferences we can learn about the perspectives
of others, new forms of technology, and develop colleagues in the field.
It is towards this end that this assignment is directed. You will
be expected to attend the HECC conference(Fall99 only) or the ICE (Indiana
Computer Educators) Conference (Spring00 only) and reflect back on the
experience. This reflection can either be shared with the class through
a presentation or simply be a paper in which you write about your experience
and what you learned.
EXPECTATIONS
NOTE: Spring 00 class will complete the paper
option.
After attending the conference you are expected to write a 1-2 paper
describing your experience based upon the guidelines below.
The following option is probably not available due to time constraints.
Option #2 : Powerpoint Presentation:
-
Prepare a 10 minute presentation (probably 8-10 slides) for the class.
Incorporate the following into your presentation:
-
Describe your professional development experience.
-
Evaluate the experience (what did you learn, what might it inspire for
the future)
-
Discuss how you will continue to meet your professional needs for obtaining
the level of technological competency you desire.

ALTERNATIVE ASSIGNMENT
If for some reason you can't attend the conference, below are two alternative
professional development activities that can be used to meet the expectations
of this assignment. However, you need to obtain permission from the
instructor if you choose one of these options.

journal, or research technology journals in the Ed Library justifying
