Sting Rays
DID YOU KNOW THAT .....
- A sting ray looks like a pancake and has a long tail with a stinger.
- The ray uses his stinging tail for protection.
- A sting ray's tail has spines that are connected to a poison sac that he uses for
stinging. His sting can be very painful.
- When he takes time out to eat or rest, he sits quietly on the sea floor and is very hard
to see.
- A ray has special openings by his eyes called spiracle that swish water into his
gills so that he can lie on the muddy seabed floor without suffocating.
