NORTHWEST LEGENDS
The Legends of the Pacific Northwest
Indians has been an important factor in keeping their culture and heritage
alive. These legends were told around the
campfire for generations and used
to keep historical accounts of events and great people; through the spoken
word. This was the root of their religion and a way of educating
their people.
The Northwest Indians relied on
these lessons and beliefs to govern their tribe and give wisdom to the
young.
Legends have been part of every
culture and many remain with us to this day. Legends of monsters
and ghosts, as well as of incredible people who need to be remembered.
Since animals are such a large part
of the Indians everyday life, they are often talked about in the legends.
Each animal represents something different in
their lives.
